Saint John's Benedictine Volunteer Corps

The volunteers in Newark pictured with their students at St. Benedicts Prep, Newark, N.J. Nick, Alex, and Josh each designed and teach their own course, they act as substitute teachers, and they are involved with school clubs and organizations.

Terran and Sam recently arrived in Cuernavaca, Mexico. They are active members of the community: washing dishes, harvesting coffee, and teaching English to the monks.

Noah and Andrew are stationed at Sant’Anselmo— an international study house for Benedictine monks and home to the Abbot Primate. They are active members of the monastic liturgy and spend time volunteering in the sacristy, driving the Abbot Primate, and assisting the monks with a blog.

Bardia teaches remotely to 200 students in Esquipulas, Guatemala from his home in Gottenburg, Sweden. His students are 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.

Our volunteers in Israel normally operate the retreat center for the monks of Tabgha. Because of COVID, Cam, Owyn, and Gabe now landscape for the monastery and retreat center.

Drew and Jack arrived at Montserrat in late February. They volunteer with the school that the monastery operates, acting in RA-type roles for the boys of the Montserrat Boy’s choir.

Keegan tutors students at Saint John’s Prep and volunteers as a hockey goalie coach for local youths. Taylor, a second year volunteer, works in Saint John’s Residential Life and Housing- engaging Johnnies in becoming active participants in their community.
